Platform comparison

MIRACLE and Milbros

Both platforms cover cargo data and tank cleaning for chemical and oil tankers. This page lists the differences that matter for planning. ChemServe develops MIRACLE.

Common ground

What both platforms do.

Milbros and MIRACLE hold cargo specifications, acceptance and compatibility checks, and regulatory and safety data.

Major operators worldwide use both.

The main difference

The knowledge around the cleaning.

ChemServe does pre-inspections, writes ship-specific manuals and runs trainings. That work feeds MIRACLE. The platform covers the knowledge around a cleaning, not only the plan.

Troubleshooting

Cleanings do not always go to plan. MIRACLE connects an unexpected result to the cargo, the procedure and the test context and works through likely causes and the next checks.

Tank Cleaning Compendium

Chemistry, cargo behaviour, machines, methods, testing, troubleshooting. Searchable and linked into the working plan. Cadets and new officers learn from the fundamentals; experienced teams look things up. ChemServe also publishes free cargo guides and wrote Tank Cleaning Practice, a handbook published by Witherby in 2026.

Expert Trainings

MIRACLE includes recurring live Expert Trainings, booked inside the platform. The trainers are the specialists who maintain the procedures. No other cargo platform includes expert training.

Chat with ChemServe

Questions go to ChemServe specialists through the chat built into MIRACLE, including questions from a cleaning that causes trouble.

Recipe depth

The cleaning procedure.

A database answers what a cargo is. The harder question is how to prepare the tanks for it. Milbros provides from/to cleaning guidance with generic cleaner categories, up to Water-White.

MIRACLE builds the worked procedure for the specific previous-to-next transition: cleaner, dosage, temperature, sequence. The recipes are developed with the cleaning-chemistry specialists of CTC Chemtec Chemicals, ChemServe's partner. A generic category leaves the translation into a working procedure to the crew.

For tank cleaning, MIRACLE is the gold standard: no commercial product offers more detailed cleaning recipes.

Further differences

Three more points.

Cleanliness standards

MIRACLE grades every recipe on a four-level cleanliness ladder: Visually Clean, Water-White, High Purity, Ultra-High Purity. It spans the full range the INTERTANKO cleanliness standards describe.

ChemServe is the only company with reliable cleaning recipes for the two highest levels. Pharmaceutical, specialty chemical and food-grade cargoes require them.

Continuity

MIRACLE has been developed in-house since 2003, without interruption. Edge cases solved fifteen years ago are still handled correctly.

Platform integration

Milbros is part of the Veson Nautical ecosystem. That is useful if your commercial operations run on Veson. MIRACLE is standalone and vendor-neutral. A REST API connects MIRACLE data to your own systems.

Database size

Why MIRACLE lists fewer products.

Milbros lists more products than MIRACLE. A large part of the difference is duplication: the same chemical appears as a separate entry for each company's trade name, and a blend appears as a separate entry for each concentration.

MIRACLE groups these. One entry represents the equivalent trade-name products. Blends are grouped into the concentration steps that change the cleaning requirement, for example below 25% and below 50%. The search resolves trade names, synonyms, UN and CAS numbers and similar spellings to the right entry.

A fleet does not sail ten thousand cargoes; it sails its trading pattern. The relevant question is whether the platform covers the transitions your vessels make, and how complete the procedure is for each of them. Check that against your own cargo history. When a cargo on your trade is missing, tell us; the database is maintained continuously.

Questions and answers

Frequently asked questions.

Is MIRACLE an alternative to Milbros?
Yes. MIRACLE is a standalone platform with cargo data, acceptance and compatibility checks, safety and regulatory content, and executable tank cleaning procedures.
Do we need other ChemServe products to use MIRACLE?
No. MIRACLE is standalone.
Does MIRACLE cover high-purity trades?
Yes. MIRACLE's cleanliness ladder goes two levels beyond Water-White: High Purity and Ultra-High Purity. ChemServe is the only company with reliable cleaning recipes for these two levels.
What happens when a cleaning goes wrong?
MIRACLE's Troubleshooting module connects the result to the cargo, the procedure and the test context and works through likely causes and the next checks. The built-in chat sends the question to a ChemServe specialist.
How do we compare the two in practice?
On your own trade. Request a trial and run your recent cargo transitions through MIRACLE. Every trial starts with a personal onboarding.
